Management TEAM

Letter from Pam Flynt Tambo, Executive Director

Dear Visitor,

The most critical questions we ask ourselves as managers of Hillside House are

What makes a home? and What makes a full and interesting life?

The answers to these questions guide our decision-making and form the principles we come back to when we plan for the future.

Our goal is always that each person who lives here will experience the love, positive support and security that a home can provide. Many visitors, family members and residents have said they can feel the presence of these qualities as soon as they walk through the front door.

If we are successful in creating these conditions, it is done through collaboration between our residents and our staff. Through the residents’ trust, hope and determination we are inspired to meet their needs and help them become increasingly more independent.

There is beauty in this system. If you have not experienced it, we invite you to stop by for a visit. And if you know first hand what I’m referring to, we hope you will choose your own way to support and reinforce it.

Pam Flynt Tambo, MA, CRC, Executive Director

Pam Flynt Tambo came to Hillside House in 2001 with a background including teaching and more than 25 years working in the disabilities field. Prior to moving to California in 1993 Pam lived in the Midwest and was active in community work focusing on local housing and neighborhood issues. Her degrees are in home economics education, community education and curriculum, all from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. She has a certification in rehabilitation counseling.  Pam has many interests especially in needlework and has been known to spend hours with sticks and string, knitting.

At Hillside House, we are very conscious of our responsibility to maximize our financial resources to provide direct services to our residents. One outcome of this commitment is that our management team is small, hands-on and easily-reached. If you have questions or wish to contact a member of our management team, we encourage you to do so.

Letter from Earl Armstrong, Board President

Dear Friends,

Hillside House is a remarkable organization, with a tradition of caring that must be experienced to be fully appreciated. For more than six decades, family members of developmentally disabled individuals have concluded their searches for residential placement for their loved ones by walking through our door and knowing instantly that they had found the right provider.

Our job as Board members is to protect this priceless legacy, and we do so with great pride and full awareness of our stewardship responsibilities. Board members often maintain their relationship with Hillside House for many years—even decades—because of the inspiration they find in our residents’ determination to live fully.

If you have not been to Hillside House, I invite you to do so. A visit will make your day. If you are considering providing financial support for our programs, I hope to encourage your generosity. California’s Medi-Cal rates for residential services for those with developmental disabilities are not sufficient to fund the important wealth of services offered here that makes Hillside House such a nurturing environment. If you, or someone you know, is interested in living at Hillside House, I encourage you to contact us.

Hillside House partners with many service agencies in Santa Barbara that provide day and support services for people with developmental disabilities. Together, our organizations create opportunities to live full lives that make Santa Barbara a model for other communities.

Sincerely,

Earl Armstrong, President
