Hillside House is a residential facility for 59 people with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism and epilepsy.
The individuals who live and learn at Hillside House are exceptional people. They live with extraordinary challenges while they offer extraordinary gifts to anyone who meets them. They teach us about love, generosity, patience and perseverance. They possess a strong desire to live life to the fullest and a remarkable ability to appreciate the many little blessings each day.
Hillside House offers residential services for people with a variety of developmental disabilities, with levels ranging from moderate to severe. The majority of our residents are non-ambulatory with additional medical challenges. We accept adults of all ages. Currently our population ranges in age from early 20’s to 70’s.
MEDICAL CARE AND SERVICES
Our Client Services Department works as a trained and committed interdisciplinary team. This team is made up of the following individuals: case manager; physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapists; nurse and doctor; dietitian; regional center service coordinator; and the client’s family.
Each resident is assessed to determine their personal strengths and needs. Our team works to develop their individualized program plan that often includes goals related to medical, social, sensory-motor, behavior and recreation needs. Our program is based on a continuous active treatment model, in which every aspect of a resident’s daily life is viewed as an opportunity to learn. We work with each person to develop their highest level of independent functioning—while having fun!
Each resident participates in individualized physical exercise designed by our physical therapist. Trained Physical Activity Assistants work with our residents on improving/maintaining range of motion, ambulation, and strength in our specially designed physical therapy room. Our P.E. room contains a variety of adaptive equipment including parallel bars, standers, walkers and even a three-wheeled bike for outdoor rides.
